The Kreayshawn That Never Was (If Kelly Kapowski Was Born In The 90′s)

If Kelly Kapowski was born in 1996 she’d be rapping on YouTube, dancing to Drake songs on YouTube, and making kissy faces naked on Tumblr.
She’d have a nosering with the chain, at least two Rihanna-inspired tatts.
Screech would be her pill supplier.
Jessie would be her first lesbian experience.
Her Twitter would have “trill b*tch reppin bayside” in the bio.
She’d call Lisa Turtle a lame.

and the caption to this picture on facebook would be: “hella icey shinin on u hoez”

Playlist: Harboring Cake (Songs That Were Too Short and Interludes That Needed To Be Full Songs)

I wish Rihanna never finished “Birthday Cake.” Not because she put Chris on the remix, but because no one’s bold enough to have a snippet that hot and leave it be.

These pieces, however, don’t need to make such statement. Their sudden endings just weren’t cool at all… and if they preceded a track of the same theme, the energy to make said track was so unnecessary.

(I want the whole song to sound like what starts at 1:55. Hey Zina.)

1-O.A.K.’s Special Request (Two-Step Round Lake Merritt Music)

I’ve been a fan of 1-O.A.K. since October 19, 2006.

How do I know this date?
Because it’s the day on my dear friend Samm‘s “Red Light” MySpace upload.
As with every track she put on her page during the golden Top 8 era, it promptly became my profile song.
And I remember being like, “oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh, who is thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis?” the first time I heard the feature.
It was a guy simply named Brandon, singing about really nasty things with a really smooth flow in a really Oakland tone cause everyone from The Town has an accent that makes the last syllables of their sentences the highest pitch.
(I never noticed this til I moved. It makes us sound so happy.)

Fast forward four years.

I catch his show at Monday Soul. I hear “High Roller” and obsess over the lyrics endlessly on Twitter. He tells me a mixtape is coming in March.

March comes and passes. No mixtape, but I listen to “Me & You” on repeat every single day because it makes me feel pretty.

Summer arrives with Teedra Moses’ Luxurious Underground. 1-O.A.K is the only guest. “So Special” is my jam.

I play his stuff for my Gary, Indiana-bred boyfriend. The same one I get into those hella serious West Coast vs every other place on earth Mid West debates with. He likes it. No caveat. No, “sound like this one kid from Chicago” comparison.

However, another dude from Tha G was mentioned…

Just when I least expect it, upon return from NYC trip during which the DJ played the orginal version of “I Got 5 On It” instead of the remix–when my homesickness has reached the “I might chokeslam someone for a slice of Zachary’s” level–Special Request arrives

I find out about it via every person on Facebook whose opinion on music matters, plus some I would’ve never expected a download link post from.

Don’t ask me what my favorite joint on here is cause they all are. “Get Up Girl” might be at this very moment tho.

Look, you want this in your life. It’s fresh. It’s thoroughly produced.

and it slaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaps!

This is so good. So Bay. And so right on time.

Holdin me down like a Fenton’s sundae!
